Texas Representative Will Metcalf has filed House Bill 1889 in the present session of the Texas State Legislature, and the bill has now progressed to the Transportation Committee for further evaluation.
Basically, the bill is designed to prevent the acquisition of County owned land by means of eminent domain for the construction of a high speed rail line.
The bill aims to prevent a corporation i.e. Texas Central Rail, or whatever name they choose to use, from constructing a high speed rail line “on or across a street, alley, square or property of a county or municipality” unless the construction is approved by the governing body of the County or municipality i.e. the County Commissioners.
As the majority of County Commissioner’s Courts along the proposed route have publicly expressed their objections to the construction of the high speed rail in their respective Counties, and assuming that they stand by their decisions, this bill,if passed, will sound the death knell of high speed rail in Texas.
You can be assured that man Eckles and his cohorts with fat wallets at Texas High Speed Rail will be lobbying hard to try and prevent this bill from progressing in order to protect their financial investment and future profits at the expense of the tax payer.
Now is the time to use your rights and make your voice heard by contacting members of the Transportation Committee and expressing your opposition to the high speed rail and requesting that they support House Bill 1889.
The Transportation Committee comprises
Rep Joseph Picket ( Chairman )
Rep Armando Martinez ( Vice Chair )
Rep Cindy Burket
Rep Yvonne Davis
Rep Allen Fletcher
Rep Patricia Harless
Rep Celia Israel
Rep Ruth Jones McClendon
Rep Andrew S. Murr
Rep Chris Paddie
Rep Larry Phillips

Remember, that man Eckels and his silver tonged lobbyists will be working overtime to get this bill rejected, and by sitting back and doing nothing you will be doing just what Texas Central Rail want.
Please spend some of your valuable time in writing to the above committee members, together with your own elected representatives, to let them know what the citizens of Texas think of high speed rail and stop this project before it is to late.
